Liverpool were absolutely humiliated 3-1 by Paul Lambert's counter attacking tactics, with Andrea Weimann and Christian Benteke (above) taking centre stage in Aston Villa's triumphant victory at Anfield on Saturday. Kopites worldwide were force fed a large piece of humble pie by the visitors, despite having the majority of possession, the Reds paid dearly for their shortcomings in the final third. The Villains shock & awe campaign on Merseyside obliterated the notion of a mid-season revival for Reds fans, and the hope of finishing the year in the top four.
Dishonourable mention goes too....
Liverpool's defensive trio of Daniel Agger, Glen Johnson and Martin Skrtel. Only Stewart Downing gets a free-pass for a decent performance at left-back against his former club. It might be bitter-sweet, but enjoy the plaudits on this night Stewie.
